Network Design Case Study
- Snack Brands Australia is a 100% Australian made and owned snack food company. SBA produces Australia’s favourite snacks and potato chips including CC’s, Cheezels, Chickadees, French Fries, Jumpy’s, Kettle, Natural Chip Company, Samboy and Thins chips
- The objective of the Snackbrands project was to optimise & standardise their product packaging and pallet configurations. This change allowed for increased automation, standardisation of the line-haul transport fleet, reduction of packaging procurement costs and a more efficient use of transport & storage assets.
Scope
- Implement standard pallet dimensions with a maximum height of 1.5 meter across the end to end supply chain for the total product range
- Introduce standard shelf ready packaging in line with retailer requirements
- Improved storage and transport utilization
- Execute national transport tender based on new product requirements and ability to double stack products over the full length of the vehicle
- Optimise DC design and flow
Approach
- SCC led the project with a cross functional client team including marketing, manufacturing, logistics, sales, procurement
- SCC reported into the board meeting of the client
- Very close client engagement meant a smooth transition into the Australian retailers
- Last part of the programme was to run a national transport tender for a high cube transport network
Outcome
- Project delivered twice the anticipated benefits, over $2 million annual savings
- Project delivered in line with annual range reviews from retailers
- Project team awarded first prize at clients internal national high achiever awards ceremony
- Project referenced by major retailers as “best in class”
